OPERS needs the support of all stakeholders to support the important pension reform legislation that is currently pending in the Ohio legislature. The passage of the legislation to implement changes to the pension benefit plan is necessary to maintain pension fund solvency and adequate health care benefits for current and future retirees. 

In fact, if pension legislation is not passed in 2012, OPERS will need to recommend far-reaching changes to avoid completely spending down the balance of the health care fund. This means the health care allowance would be eliminated for current and future retirees. 

Each day the legislation is not passed costs OPERS approximately $1 million in savings—savings that would fund your future pension benefit and health care. That is each and every day. If you want to sign your member petition immediately, you can sign the online petition via the OPERS website.
